The most important step in caring for your skin comes in understanding your specific skin type and how it adapts to certain circumstances or seasonality. There are five general categories that help us define our skin type and get to know it better. Of course, our skin is complicated and will not always fit exactly into a single category.
How to find out:
- Clean your skin with a mild cleanser and pat dry
- DO NOT APPLY ANY PRODUCT AFTER CLEANSING JUST PAT DRY
- Wait for around 1 hour and examine your skin.
- Combination skin
If your cheeks, chin and nose look shiny (feels a little oily) but feels parched, especially if you smile or make any other facial expressions, like oily on some area and dry on some, then you have a combination skin.
- Dry skin
- If you skin feels tight after 1 hour of washing, and you really need a moisturizer then it’s Definitely dry. - It is normal for it to be flaky and crack, especially in the winter months
- Oily skin
If it’s only oily and not dry on other areas, then you have an oily skin, people with oily skin often struggle with large pores.
- Normal skin
If your skin feels normal, just a little oil on nose or forehead or not even that, or you feel a little need for moisturizer but it’s okay if you don’t, but overall the skin doesn’t feel too parched or sensitive, you have a normal skin type. People with normal skin will feel their skin clean and clear after cleansing
- Sensitive skin
What you need to do
Combination skin
Find a moisturizer that is not too heavy but one substantial enough to retain moisture where needed most. you may want to use a mild cleanser and moisturizer on your cheeks and a more stringent product on your T-zone to cut through the oil.Sensitive skin
Managing sensitive skin can be challenging, as it takes considerable time and effort to determine which ingredients cause inflammation and irritation. People having this type of skin need to know that there are many ingredients they need to check before buying a product for themselves, and they need to find out masks good for their skin which won’t cause them irritation. Homemade masks are best if you have sensitive skin as they are 100% natural so less chance for irritation.People with sensitive skin often have normal to large pores, but this can differ based on a possible reaction to a product or other irritant. You need to perform patch tests on products before use to determine which products aggravate your skin and which ones keep it calm.
