FIND OUT YOUR SKIN TYPE

When finding products for your skin or making a skin care routine plan the most important step is to know what type of skin you have, not all products will suit your skin, you need to find the right ingredients your skin needs. Well yeah, everyone knows what type of skin they have but some people who just started taking their skin seriously wouldn’t have noticed what type their skin is, so if you’re not sure you here’s your guide.

The most important step in caring for your skin comes in understanding your specific skin type and how it adapts to certain circumstances or seasonality. There are five general categories that help us define our skin type and get to know it better. Of course, our skin is complicated and will not always fit exactly into a single category.

How to find out:

  1. Clean your skin with a mild cleanser and pat dry
  2. DO NOT APPLY ANY PRODUCT AFTER CLEANSING JUST PAT DRY
  3. Wait for around 1 hour and examine your skin.

  •  Combination skin

If your cheeks, chin and nose look shiny (feels a little oily) but feels parched, especially if you smile or make any other facial expressions, like oily on some area and dry on some, then you have a combination skin.

  • Dry skin

If you skin feels tight after 1 hour of washing, and you really need a moisturizer then it’s Definitely dry. - It is normal for it to be flaky and crack, especially in the winter months

  • Oily skin

If it’s only oily and not dry on other areas, then you have an oily skin, people with oily skin often struggle with large pores.

  • Normal skin

If your skin feels normal, just a little oil on nose or forehead or not even that, or you feel a little need for moisturizer but it’s okay if you don’t, but overall the skin doesn’t feel too parched or sensitive, you have a normal skin type. People with normal skin will feel their skin clean and clear after cleansing

  • Sensitive skin

If your skin feels clean and a bit dry after washing and the cleanser may trigger itching and irritation to occur, or when you use products most of them just cause you rash or itchiness on your face, then you have a sensitive skin.

What you need to do

Combination skin

Find a moisturizer that is not too heavy but one substantial enough to retain moisture where needed most. you may want to use a mild cleanser and moisturizer on your cheeks and a more stringent product on your T-zone to cut through the oil.

Sensitive skin

Managing sensitive skin can be challenging, as it takes considerable time and effort to determine which ingredients cause inflammation and irritation. People having this type of skin need to know that there are many ingredients they need to check before buying a product for themselves, and they need to find out masks good for their skin which won’t cause them irritation. Homemade masks are best if you have sensitive skin as they are 100% natural so less chance for irritation.
People with sensitive skin often have normal to large pores, but this can differ based on a possible reaction to a product or other irritant. You need to perform patch tests on products before use to determine which products aggravate your skin and which ones keep it calm.

Oily skin

More prone to acne because excess oil can often leave pores congested and clogged, so you need to find out masks that absorbs excess oil and moisturizer that don’t feel oily, look for oil-free sunscreens too. Clogged pores mean more white and blackheads so you need to control the oil in order to control your acneA plus point for oily skin is that oily skin looks younger and more supple because it has more natural moisture and is less prone to wrinkle. Gramflour (besan) is really good for your oily skin.

Dry skin

Dry skin is largely due to genetics, environmental factors such as lifestyle & diet, hormonal changes, and climate. Dehydration is also a leading cause of dry skin, so, your skin care routine needs a lot of water in it. You need to find out masks that are made for dry skin. Use lotions and rich creams to nourish your skin cells. If your skin feels dry but you still get breakouts, then you probably don’t truly have 100% dry skin.

Normal skin

Well you guys don’t need to worry about anything, almost everything will work good on your skin but if you have problem finding a mask for you skin, don’t worry I’ve got you. Lighter lotions and serums are ideal for your skin type because you don’t need a much heavy product to keep your skin in balance. You still need to deep cleanse your skin once a week for a healthy-looking clean skin.

Pores are small openings that cover all of the skin in your body. Enlarged pores are my worst fear and I know a lot of people have the same fear. Many factors can lead to enlarge pores, some out of our control including genetics and aging and some we can control like blackheads, sun damage and oily skin.
